REGISTERING FOR COMPUTER CLASSES

  1. Read the information explaining the general schedule, requirements, and fees for the class you wish to take.
  2. Get the specific class dates and class name from the Park Place Preview, the computer lab, or the desk at the Park Place Office.
  3. Pay the required Township fee at time of registration and receive a receipt. For advanced computer classes. refer to “Requirements & Fees”
NOTES:
You may register for any class listed, if you meet the requirements, as described above. Note the posted times and dates for classes.  Classes will be held if the minimum of 3 registrations are met during the registration period.  If a class registration is filled, you can be placed on standby in the event of a cancellation or no-show student.
  1. Attendance at the first class session is required.
    Students who miss the first class without a valid excuse will be dropped from that class.
    Students should call 847-244-9242 if they are not able to attend any class session.
    A student may complete the balance of the class with the approval of the instructor.
  2. Refunds or credit for the next offered course will be made only if the class is cancelled or a student withdraws from the class no less then five days before the first class.
  3. A Certificate of Completion will be presented to a student who attends all class meetings.  If a student misses a class, the instructor’s evaluation will determine if the student has successfully completed the course.

“Computer Fundamentals”
For those new to computers, this course provides the knowledge needed to begin using a personal computer.  It includes familiarization with computer equipment, and learning the skills needed to perform a variety of simple tasks including word processing and games.  The course consists of four 2-hour classes which meet twice a week for 2 weeks.  This course is a prerequisite for all the following listed courses.

“Introduction to Using Your Computer”
This course is for those who are more familiar with personal computers. The curriculum includes more advanced word processing, using a simple database and spreadsheet, basic Internet and file management. The course consists of eight 2-hour classes.  The class meets twice a week for four weeks

“Introduction to The Internet”
Students in this course learn the skills necessary to begin using
the Internet, and include using a browser, searching the World Wide Web, using a discussion group, downloading files, and a variety of Internet sites with links for information on a wide range of subjects.The 2-hour classes are held twice a week for two weeks.

Computer-Assisted Genealogy”
Techniques for developing your personal genealogy are taught using the “Family Tree Maker” software.  Students will also use the Internet to acquire information to supplement their family history. The 2-hour classes are held twice a week for four weeks.

“Digital Editing with Photoshop Elements”
A moderately advanced course on digital editing of photos using Photoshop Elements 5.  The 2-hour classes meet twice a week for four weeks.  Not designed for computer beginners

The following Course which is moderately advanced requires that you should be familiar with Windows XP, use of the mouse, computer file operations, word processing, etc.
