Who Needs Help?
- In Illinois, over 200,000 children are being raised in grandparent-headed households.
- In the United States, over 2 million children are being raised by their grandparents or other relatives.
- Grandparent caregivers range in age from 30 to 90!
- Average income for these caregivers is between $15,000 and $25,000.
- The majority of these caregivers are single women

How We Help
Waukegan Township understands that many grandparents and relative caregivers are overwhelmed
by the situations they face.By networking with other caregivers in similar situations, grandparents don't feel so isolated and alone.
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meets - at 5:30 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
We provide experts prepared to address the particular needs faced by these courageous
seniors for approximately one hour. The children are separated and address a topic similar to what the adults are discussing.Afterward, families are encouraged to share a meal and discuss the particular topic.
Who is Eligible for Help?
- Grandparents and other relatives who have primary responsibility for raising children.
- Grandparents and other relatives who are partial caregivers on a regular basis
